BREAD OF LIFE

Stability

Let’s talk about stability. The world has been a bit crazy for awhile. We’ve all felt it. Since 2020, my goal was to never live in fear of empty shelves at the grocery store again. Over time, we’ve found that depending more on our farmers and less on retail takes a lot of stress out of our daily lives. Yes, we still buy groceries every two to three weeks, but in all honesty, we only buy certain things that you don’t usually see on a farm. When the world was shut down for “precautions”, I found myself in my happy place, my kitchen. Just as I’m sure many of you did. I baked, I canned and shut the door on the world outside of our home. The problem was my trips to the super market. We not only had to search for toilet paper, but flour and yeast as well. This was possibly one factor in the popularity of the sourdough comeback. Still, when we had flour in stock near us, we were rationed to one package per person.
To me, I find my stability in God, but with that said, He created wheat to nuture our bodies. Wheat that contains 40 out of 44 essential nutrients that our bodies need. Not only that, wheat is stable! Yes! Whole wheat berries can last up to 30 years when stored correctly
.I’ve found that a pantry full of wheat berries takes away the worries of what to do if another pandemic hits. Just as Joseph stored wheat in the Bible for all of Egypt, keeping a few buckets for your family can give a bit of security that a bag of flour can’t. It will also take away your need for most vitamin supplements
.While milling may seem a bit intimidating at first, you’ll realize after you mill your first recipe how easy it is. How simple and worth it, it is.
